"I Remember" - In Honor of Donald Keʻala Kawāʻauhau Jr.

Weʻd like to remember and celebrate a catalyst in our lāhui, join Sudden Rush and Mana Maoli in wishing Donald Keʻala Kawāʻauhau Jr. aka KingDon1, a hauʻoli lā hānau! Kawāʻauhau was a pioneer for change and ahead of his lifetime. As an unwavering advocate for his culture and people, Keʻala went against the grain to voice his mana’o that impacted many Kanaka. As passionate and strong as he felt for his lāhui, he never disrespected opposing peopleʻs views, and used his artistic platform to effectively speak to the community and youth. His out of the box thinking was harmonic, especially when it came to music. Kawāʻauhau and Sudden Rush were the creators of Nā Mele Pāleoleo and forefathers of Hawaiian Hip Hop. His music appealed to younger and older generations that inspired and evoked change - a true aloha ʻāina warrior. As successful as his musical career was, he is also remembered for his big personality. Keʻala was humble, down to earth, witty, uplifting, encouraging, and hilarious. He was a well respected and loved radio personality for Hiloʻs very own KWXX.
