Dr. Alberto Villoldo seems to be one of the most important Shamans of the western world during the past decades. It is his great acknowledgement to have connected the wisdom and knowledge of the Shamans of the Amazon, which is thousands of years old, with modern neuroscience. In both fields he pushed forward exceptional pioneer achievments. This was in 1974 and he was 25 years of age. He had founded an Institute for Biological Self-Regulation and studied the effect of energetic healing methods on blood and brain chemistry. But at the end oft he 1970s, he quit his scientific career and lived with the shamans of the Andes and the Amazon in Peru for around 25 years. Long-term teachers were Inka Don Antonio Morales, Don Manuel Quispe, the medicine woman Dona Laura and Don Eduardo Calderon.
