Dooku: The evening’s purpose is… flexible. The company, carefully chosen. The conversation, unpredictable. Maul: Attendance is not required—merely expected. Seating will be arranged in accordance with the natural order of things. Ventress: No titles will be used, no allegiances acknowledged. The Republic’s table welcomes all who believe they have earned a place at it. Tarkin: Topics of discussion may include: The nature of strength, and its burden. Dooku: The price of loyalty, when it is tested. Maul: The future—its stewards, its sacrifices, and its inevitable shape. Ventress: Dinner will begin at dusk, when the city lights drown the stars. Anakin: Please arrive as you are. You will be seen as you truly are. The ancient lift shudders its way upward through the spine of the tower. Its walls, carved with symbols that once belonged to another age, seem to pulse faintly in the flickering emergency lights. The sound of gears and distant thunder merge into a single, steady heartbeat. The doors open with a hiss. Anakin Skywalker steps out — alone — into a grand, silent hall. Marble stretches before him, fractured by veins of black crystal. A storm rolls against the glass dome high above, lightning crawling through the clouds like veins of light. Then, from the far side of the hall, figures emerge one by one from the dark. Count Dooku. Darth Maul. Asajj Ventress. And, composed as if arriving for an opera, Governor Tarkin. Anakin’s hand goes instantly to his lightsaber. Anakin (cold): “If this is a reunion, you picked the wrong guest.” Ventress (measured): “I was about to say the same thing.” Maul takes a step forward, eyes narrowing. The red lines of his tattoos flare briefly in the lightning. Maul: “You came armed. Good. It saves time.” Dooku (dry, faintly amused): “Gentlemen, please. We all sense the same thing, don’t we? A trap—just not one of ours.” Anakin hesitates. His gaze flicks between them, then to the shadows gathering in the corners. Anakin: “You expect me to believe that?” Tarkin (calm, precise): “Believe what you like, Skywalker. I received an invitation bearing the Chancellor’s seal. As, I presume, did you.” The storm cracks overhead — a single, violent flash — and the tension breaks just long enough for reason to return. Anakin lowers his saber slightly, but not all the way. Anakin (quiet): “If this is a dinner party, someone’s got a twisted sense of hospitality.” They move through the hall together, none daring to turn their backs. The corridors wind deeper into the tower — lined with relics that hum faintly, their inscriptions alive in the candlelight. Portraits of forgotten Sith Lords seem to follow them with eyes slick as oil. Anakin (uneasy): “Why are there so many Sith artifacts in a Republic building?” Ventress (dry): “Some people collect fine wines. Others… red flags.” Dooku: “They are relics of power. Knowledge. Something you might appreciate—if you survive long enough.” Anakin (mutters): “I’ll add that to my list of goals tonight.” They reach the main salon: a vast, echoing chamber where a long table waits, already set for six. A chandelier sways slightly overhead, though the air is perfectly still. Tarkin (low): “Then it’s true. We’re expected.” The candles flicker. Somewhere, a door unlocks on its own. The main salon awaits them, a cavernous room where shadows gather in corners like living things. A single chandelier sways slightly despite the absence of any breeze, its crystals tinkling like distant screams. Anakin: “Where… is he? I just hope he’s alright.” Ventress: “Why do you care so much about him?” Maul: “Maybe…the boy has a special place for him…in his heart.” Anakin (emotional, sincere): " Maybe I doYou’re right! The Chancellor has been like a father to me. He understands what it is like growing up alone, without guidance." Ventress (surprisingly gentle): "That's actually touching." Tarkin (nervous, defensive): "Yes, well... fathers can be complicated. Sometimes they expect too much. Sometimes they're never satisfied." Dooku (curious): "Speaking from experience, Grand Moff?" Tarkin (quickly): "Certainly not! My relationship with authority figures is perfectly normal! #starwars #starwarswhatif #whatif
