When a Camera is Too Good for Portraits | Fujifilm GFX100RF

I shot studio portraits using only natural light with the Fujifilm GFX100RF… and honestly, it might be the most overkill setup I’ve used in a while. A 102 megapixel medium format camera with a fixed f/4 lens isn’t exactly what comes to mind for portrait photography—especially in a studio setting where most people are reaching for faster lenses and more traditional setups. But I wanted to see what would actually happen if I leaned into it instead of fighting it. In this video, I put the GFX100RF through a real natural light portrait session and break down how it felt to shoot with, what stood out, and whether all that extra resolution actually makes a difference in a controlled environment. This isn’t a full review—just a real-world portrait shoot, figuring out if something this “overkill” can actually fit into a portrait workflow. If you’re into portrait photography, natural light studio setups, Fujifilm cameras, or just curious about medium format for portraits, this one’s for you.
