In 1928, General Umberto Nobile's expedition aboard the airship "Italia" crashed while returning from the North Pole. Some of the crew perished, while the rest languished for about a month in an ice camp. Of all the vessels participating in the international rescue operation, only the Soviet icebreaker "Krasin" managed to reach the Red Tent camp. Olga Shauro, a researcher at the Russian State Arctic and Antarctic Museum, explains how the rescue of General Nobile's expedition unfolded.
