Road Hierarchy for Beginners | Cities: Skylines

Hey! In this video we cover the very basics of Road Planning in cities skylines. Also known as: Road Hierarchy. The basic order is as follows: Highways Arterials Collectors Local Roads Highways are the high speed corridors to get into and out of the map, or just long distances. Arterials should be the fastest routes across sections of your city. The roads connected to these, Collectors, should act as conduits exchanging vehicles between local roads and Arterials. Local Roads are the only road with an exception in this game. These are only supposed to connect to Collectors and each other. The exception is when you need a "driveway" for a city service, especially if there is a median preventing left turns. There is no set number of lanes for any of these. That is completely dependent on the density of the region. However, the number of intersections does matter, regardless of region. The number of intersections should be increasing as you go down that list. The more intersections you add to any given road, the slower traffic will move. The only exception to this is when you start getting into lower density and rural areas. You can get away with either too many intersections or intersections that are too close.
