Pokémon LeafGreen Playthrough 35: Returning to Mt. Ember
After beating the Pokémon League and becoming Champion, I then visit Professor Oak, he upgrades the Pokédex to the National Mode, which means I can register Pokémon from other regions, and Blue goes to One Island to find some rare Pokémon. I return back there to find the Rocket Grunts at Mt. Ember, which could lead to something special. As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description I have beaten the Elite Four, and when you have registered 60 species of Pokémon, Professor Oak will upgrade your Pokédex to the National Pokédex, and that means we can finally evolve Golbat and Chansey. We gain new Fame Checker info, and most of which are from various NPCs that we have met during the adventure, and if you visit your rival's house, you can talk to Daisy, she can groom your Pokémon, and this increases friendship, and she can do it again if you take over 200 steps. For other Fame Checker info, most of which are references to Pokémon Gold & Silver, for example, there is one NPC that tells you that Lance is from Blackthorn City in the Johto region, as his cousin is a Gym Leader from there, Koga's daughter is in Fuchsia City, she is at the northern part of the city, and there are many others. We cannot battle the Elite Four again as Lorelei is not present, so that means we have to visit the islands again if we want to rematch the Elite Four. Time to visit One Island and talk to Celio, but before then, we check out Two Island's shop, which adds Lemonade and Moomoo Milk to their stock, good way to buy them instead of using the vending machines at Celadon's Department Store. Moomoo Milk heals 100 HP, a good item to buy as it costs less than a Super Potion, and it is a reliable healing item. I check out Three Island, where the man who was prospecting for gold has managed to find a Nugget, and through the path is some tall grass, and here we can find our first Johto Pokémon, and it is Dunsparce. As you can only find Dunsparce there, this is a good spot for HP EV training, and as for Dunsparce itself, it is not that great, it doesn't have good stats, despite its versatility and it can have Serene Grace for its Ability. The best it can do is use Glare to paralyze the opponent and flinch with Headbutt, which it can get as an Egg Move from the Seel line. Back to One Island, and our next quest is to help out Celio with the Network Machine so that we can trade with other regions, like Hoenn, and that we have to find some special gemstones, and that means we have to check out Mt. Ember, where we find the two Rocket Grunts, and they use some very low levelled Pokémon, making it look as if you were intended to fight them when you first arrive at One Island. Then we go through a new path in Mt. Ember, and this one has wild Slugma, a Fire-type with Special Attack for its best stat, but held back by its low Speed. The downside to Slugma's Fire-type is being weak to Water and Ground-type moves, while its resistances to Grass, Ice, and Bug are nice, its weaknesses are more common than its resistances, and Fire-types have a hard time defensively. It becomes Fire/Rock-type when it evolves into Magcargo, and despite its good Defense stat, Fire/Rock is one of the worse defensive type combinations, it is 4x weak to Water and Ground, and its low Speed is its massive drawback. While there are some Pokémon that you might want to use from Johto, Slugma is not one of those Pokémon, it is there for Pokédex filler, and you can find Magcargo in the wild through Rock Smash as a 10% encounter. When you get through the path, it leads to the Ruby, and you can find Braille writing, Braille is made up of various dots, usually as a way for blind people to read, and every copy of each Generation 3 game, that is Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, and LeafGreen, would come with an instruction booklet for Braille to help players out with certain puzzles. After we have picked up the Ruby, we return back to the Network Center and give it to Celio, and he tells you there is one more gemstone that forms a pair with the Ruby, and he tells you it is located in the Sevii Islands, and we trade our Tri-Pass for the Rainbow Pass, which not only lets us travel to One Island to Three Island, but all of the other Sevii Islands, which we will do in the next part.
