Whinlatter Forest Parkrun (POV) - The Run - Event 330 - 14/03/2026 My first run at this parkrun event finishing in 67th place with a time of 35m13s. Whinlatter boasts the accolade of being the second most difficult parkrun in the U.K. Overall elevation for the course is just under 700ft. The course features a lot of gradient throughout, so if you've never done hills on any parkrun, you may be under-prepared for this course. Terrain is trail paths which have either a loose gravel, tarmac or rocky surface for the most part. Expect puddles with water running off the mountains across the course in some places if it has been raining, or if there is snow-melt. Small branches, leaves and mud can also cover the course in various places. Trail running shoes are recommended to give some extra grip. This a single lap course. In Summer I would recommend some insect repellent, as midges are everywhere. Note, there is parking at the forest and if you are a Forestry England member, it becomes free. There are toilet facilities and a nice cafe - with a 10% discount until 11am for parkrunners. There are plenty of other trail courses with longer distances, 7.5K, 10K, Half-Marathon and also cycle tracks should you wish to take on some extra activities. Watch out for cyclists during the run as they can cut across the course at various points. There is a play area for kids and go-ape climbing area. Note, there is no mobile phone signal in the area.
