His music helped me move forward from the direct influence I already had from players such as Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Steve Vai, as Satriani helped me see the importance of learning as much as you can about music and applying that knowledge to everything you perform, compose, and improvise/jam. This lesson takes a look at a number of ideas that came from a live bootleg from 1987 in New York City in the legendary 'Limelight' club, which was recorded in July and just a few months before Joe released his seminal instrumental classic - 'Surfing with the Alien' and literally held the rock guitar world on its ear.
