Oboe Adjustment Using Only Playing Tests — And Why I Think It’s Better (Every Oboe is Different)

I decided to make a short video on oboe adjustment using the playing tests, which I personally prefer to the cigarette tests, since the cigarette tests can vary slightly on different oboes, in my experience (mechanisms are slightly different, naturally, on every oboe — due to slight variations in cork heights throughout, etc.) I was always adjusting other people’s oboes, even in undergrad, because I found it kind of fun to do. Some of my friends will still call me sometimes to help them with it. I remember a friend’s oboe on stage at a concert after they accidentally dropped their oboe a short distance, and it felt so good to problem-solve. It’s a great, and in my opinion necessary, skill to have!
