From under Nikolayeva's pen have come: a symphony, a trio for flute, viola and piano , a sonatina for violin and piano, the vocal series "lceland" and a great number of piano pieces. Nikolayeva's compositions are characterized by their sincerity, emotional colour, their originality and rich piano texture. These features are also characteristic of Nikolayeva's three-part Piano Concerto which follows the best traditions of the Russian piano concerto writing, in particular those of Rachmaninov. The concerto was performed fcr the first time on September 24,1950 in Moscow by the author and the State Symphonic Orchestra under K. I. Eliasberg's baton.
