CHP Pursuit Ends After Driver Says "I’m Not Going to Jail"

On March 24, 2026, a California Highway Patrol officers with the East Los Angeles Area office were patrolling the I-10 eastbound near Baldwin Avenue when he observed a black Chevrolet Silverado traveling over 80 MPH in the HOV lane. The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop after the driver slowed dramatically, changed lanes, and created a traffic hazard. The stop quickly escalated when the driver allegedly failed to follow commands, stopped in a live lane, shouted that he "was not going to jail,” and then fled from the CHP officers. The Silverado reached speeds of up to 96 MPH, made unsafe lane changes, drove the wrong way, and continued evading officers through the El Monte and Santa Anita Avenue area. Due to the danger created by the driver’s actions, officers discontinued the pursuit. Several days later, Sierra Madre Police Department officers located and detained the same driver, and CHP officers responded to place him under arrest.
