12 de MAY. Conferencia de prensa de Cristina Fernández de Kirchner y Michelle Bachelet.
May 12, 2014, Buenos Aires: President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and her Chilean counterpart, Michelle Bachelet, signed a joint declaration reaffirming their "commitment to continue strengthening integration between the two countries" as part of the Treaty of Maipú. They also ratified two cooperation agreements. After holding a private meeting, Presidents Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Michelle Bachelet signed a joint declaration and held a press conference in the Hall of Argentine Women of the Bicentennial. In the joint declaration, both presidents "reiterated their full commitment to continue strengthening integration between the two countries, within the framework of the Treaty of Maipú on Integration and Cooperation—complementary to the 1984 Treaty of Peace and Friendship—which they signed in 2009, and its Supplementary Protocols, and agreed to adopt concrete measures regarding connectivity, infrastructure, and other relevant aspects of the bilateral agenda." Furthermore, they addressed "issues of common interest related to the bilateral and regional agenda, reiterating their Latin Americanist vocation, as well as their firm commitment to regional integration processes, such as CELAC, UNASUR, and the Mercosur Political Consultation and Coordination Forum." On another note, President Michelle Bachelet thanked President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for "the material aid and solidarity provided by Argentina to the government and people of Chile in addressing the serious effects of the earthquake that occurred on April 1st in the Arica and Parinacota and Tarapacá regions, and the fire that occurred on April 12th in Valparaíso." The President of Chile reiterated "the support of the Government and people of Chile for the legitimate sovereign rights of the Argentine Republic over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime areas." In that regard, she "reaffirmed the need for the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume negotiations in order to find, as soon as possible, a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute, in accordance with the Resolutions of the United Nations and the Declarations of the Organization of American States." Both Presidents renewed their commitment to the shared values of peace, democracy, the protection of human rights, and the promotion of sustainable development with social inclusion. Furthermore, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Michelle Bachelet condemned "the recent terrorist attacks perpetrated by the Boko Haram group, which resulted in the kidnapping of more than two hundred Nigerian girls and which have caused outrage and consternation worldwide, and expressed their solidarity with the Nigerian people and Government, in particular with the families of the victims, demanding the prompt release of the minors who are still being held captive." "They expressed their particular sensitivity to this atrocious episode that violates the Human Rights of a group of vulnerable minors, and urged the international community to redouble its efforts to actively mobilize against this type of aberration," the joint document states.
