ОБСУЖДЕНИЕ ПОПРАВОК В ЗАКОН О ВЫБОРАХ ДЕПУТАТОВ ПАРЛАМЕНТА АБХАЗИИ

After a lengthy and heated debate on amendments to the constitutional law "On the Elections of Deputies of the People's Assembly – the Parliament of Abkhazia," the deputies voted by a majority to remove the issue from the district session. The bill proposed for adoption in the first reading included clarifications regarding proficiency in the state language of Abkhaz and Russian. Specifically, language proficiency testing would be conducted by the Central Election Commission's linguistic commission. Furthermore, the bill stipulated a five-year residency requirement for candidates for parliament; a ban on changing their registration between the day the elections are called and the tabulation of results; a ban on publishing the results of polls related to the elections 30 days before the elections; a ban on the participation of foreigners and foreign and international organizations in activities that interfere with the preparation and conduct of elections, the nomination, campaigning, registration of candidates, the election of candidates, etc. We offer a full video version of the discussion of this bill.
