Tusk Festival 2015 — Sax Ruins

Sax Ruins formed in 2006 in Tokyo to continue the music of the legendary Ruins but with that duo’s blazing drum powerhouse Tatsuya Yoshida now paired with Ryoko Ono on sax, continuing that tradition of insanely intricate prog-like compositions at 200rpm as though performed by blisteringly accomplished hardcore punkers. You may well see strong aesthetic parallels with John Zorn’s incendiary recordings with Mike Patton, Joey Baron and Trevor Dunn and its no surprise that Patton’s Ipecac label issued their 2009 album Yawiquo outside Japan. Yoshida is as infernal behind the kit as ever and with Ono as his raging musical sparring partner, this first UK visit for Sax Ruins might be your most brutally pleasurable experience this year.
