Airway Clearance Techniques: Infant CPT

This video series is a project created by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Division of Pulmonary Medicine to educate health professionals about airway clearance techniques in cystic fibrosis care. This video walks viewers through chest physiotherapy treatment (CPT) for infants. Tips: o The percussor cup being used is made of flexible rubber that helps control for proper cupping technique. At Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, these instruments are provided to families. You can also purchase them here: https://www.smiths-medical.com/produc... o Use a cupped hand or percussor cup. If done right, you will hear a popping sound. o Percussion should not cause red marks on the child. o Do not percuss over the backbone, breastbone, or lower two ribs. o Percuss on both the right and left sides. o If the child will not tolerate the full 24 minutes, it is better to do 1 minute in each area rather than 2 minutes in half of the areas. You want to try as much as possible to hit all areas equally. The goal is to do the complete 24 minutes if possible! o This treatment should be performed twice a day and increased to three to four when sick. o Put a thin layer of clothing, such as a t-shirt, on the child’s chest. o Do CPT before meals or 30 minutes after meals.
