ECDL - Module 5 - Section 7 - Data Management Syllabus 7 Secure Data Management 7.1 Securing and Saving Data 7.1.1 Recognize ways to ensure the physical security of computers and mobile devices, such as not leaving them unattended, recording the location and details of devices, using anti-theft cables, controlling access to computer rooms. 7.1.2 Recognize the importance of having a backup procedure to prevent data loss from computers and mobile devices. 7.1.3 Identify the characteristics of a backup procedure, such as regularity/frequency, scheduling, location of the data backup medium, data compression. 7.1.4 Back up data to a medium such as: local hard drive/device, external drive, cloud service. 7.1.5 Restore data from a backup on a local hard drive/device, external drive, or cloud service. 7.2 Erasure and Secure Destruction 7.2.1 Distinguish between erasing data and permanently deleting it. 7.2.2 Understand the reasons for permanently deleting data from mass storage devices or mobile devices. 7.2.3 Be aware that deleting content from services may not be permanent, such as social networking sites, blogs, internet forums, and cloud services. 7.2.4 Identify the most common methods for permanently destroying data, such as using a shredder, shredding mass storage devices, degaussing, and using software for permanent data erasure.
