Panchadān Festival 2082 | Celebration at Swoyambhu Stupa & Bhaktapur
Join us as we explore the Panchadān Festival 2025 in Nepal, one of the most unique and meaningful Buddhist traditions of the Kathmandu Valley. Celebrated every year during the sacred month of Guṇlā, Panchadān (literally “five gifts”) is a festival of generosity, compassion, and spiritual merit. In this video, you will witness the celebration at two historic locations: Swoyambhu Stupa (Kathmandu) – Known as the “Monkey Temple,” Swoyambhu is one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal. On the day of Panchadān, devotees gather here to offer the five symbolic gifts — rice, grains, salt, pulses, and money — to Buddhist priests and alms-seekers. The stupa is filled with the sound of Gunlā Bājā music, the sight of butter lamps, prayer flags, and beautifully displayed images of Dīpaṅkara Buddha, creating a truly spiritual atmosphere. Bhaktapur City – The celebration here is even more vibrant, with the grand procession of five Dīpaṅkara Buddhas carried through the ancient streets. From Suryamadhi to Taumadhi Square, the entire city takes part in the festival, offering the five gifts along the way. The beating drums, traditional music, and community participation make Panchadān in Bhaktapur a living heritage that connects people to centuries-old Buddhist traditions. Panchadān is not just a festival of almsgiving; it is a living cultural heritage that preserves the values of Newar Buddhism in Nepal. From Swoyambhu Temple to the historic streets of Bhaktapur, the festival shows how generosity and faith continue to shape Nepal’s cultural identity. 👉 If you love exploring Nepal’s festivals, culture, traditions, and heritage, don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more festival journeys, walking tours, and spiritual experiences from across Nepal. #Panchadan #NepalFestival #Swoyambhu #Bhaktapur #DipankaraBuddha #GunlaFestival #BuddhistFestival #NewarTradition #NepalCulture #NepalHeritage #VisitNepal2025
