Freightliner Unimog FLU-419 SEE Tractor Startup / Digging Operation

This 1987 Freightliner Unimog FLU419 is a former US military vehicle that was overhauled in 2004 by Red River Army Depot. Power is from a 5.7-liter Mercedes-Benz diesel inline-six mated to a manual gearbox and a dual-range transfer case. The truck is finished in drab camouflage and includes a snorkel. The Unimog 419 was classified as a Small Emplacement Excavator and was used by the US Army as an engineering vehicle. Exterior equipment includes storage lockers, work lights, a snorkel, a roof guard, a hydraulically operated front-end loader, and a rear-mounted backhoe that folds onto the back of the truck. Black 20” steel wheels wear Michelin X tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs.The cab features individual front seats upholstered in black vinyl, as well as controls for the gearbox, transfer case, and accessories. Amenities include windshield heaters and washers as well as sun visors and lap belts. A two-spoke steering wheel fronts instrumentation that includes an 80-mph speedometer, a 3,200-rpm tachometer, a combination gauge, and a voltmeter. An analog inclinometer is mounted atop the dash. Hydraulic tools including a chainsaw, pavement breaker and hammer drill are located in side boxes.
