Perchè USO MAPPE di APPLE invece di GOOGLE MAPS?

It's no secret that Cupertino sometimes uses the so-called "form over function" approach, meaning that to improve the aesthetics, you sacrifice some functionality and practicality. In the case of Maps, this does happen, but not in a way that bothers me. Take the Google interface: you have practically all the controls right on the screen, while with Apple you have to swipe to open the menu for many actions, including simply ending navigation. Apple also has a point in its favor for placing the elements you need to interact with, like the search bar, at the bottom of the screen, where your thumb would normally be, compared to Google, which slams everything at the top, making it harder to reach the button you need. In general, the app's design—from the colors to the graphics, the 3D buildings while you navigate, the inevitably cleaner interface, the fact that there are no street names, as I won't be driving everywhere anyway—I like it better. Anyway, it's not just the design. I switched to Apple Maps when I had an Apple Watch, and I easily received all my directions on my wrist, which is a huge advantage, especially when driving. I don't know if Google Maps has been updated and does something similar now. Another advantage I've discovered is that Apple's voice directions—the ones dictated by the navigator—are often more intuitive, easier to understand, and less robotic than Google's. I always keep the voice prompts on mute, so I haven't had the chance to gain much experience with them to confirm this, but it doesn't hurt. Apple has also made up a lot of ground in terms of the number of locations included in the database, so you're now almost guaranteed to find your destination on both services, and I've never been completely led astray by either app. Let's add a couple of other features, like the Apple Watch, which Apple does well. I won't bore you with planning trips on the Mac, but I'll point out that having navigation on the lock screen is a great advantage, especially for saving battery life and preventing your smartphone from overheating. Moreover, with the always-on display, you always have information like how far you are, your arrival time, and turn-by-turn navigation available. The screen turns on without needing to unlock it, but it still gives you all the necessary information as soon as something important happens, like a turn you need to make. Okay, let's move on. We've discovered what drives me to stick with Apple Maps, but since I like to explore all the options and discover what's on the other side, I'll now tell you what I envy about Google Maps and hope Apple implements or improves its app. Google Maps isn't just navigation: you can find local opening hours, which are often much more up-to-date than Apple Maps. There's much more information about monuments and other points of interest, which is also inevitable because it integrates with Google itself. It boasts a large number of user reviews and generally benefits from a larger user base. Google as a company has different policies and principles than Apple. For example, it's less afraid to release new, somewhat experimental features, see how they catch on, and then improve them once they're out there. Like the recommendation of the most fuel-efficient route based on your engine type, which is good for the environment and your wallet. This is perhaps the thing I envy most about Maps as an Apple user.
