The anniversary edition of the Dragon Boat Fun Regatta kicked off on Friday, June 12, 2026, in Duisburg's Inner Harbor with the Student and Teacher Cups. For 25 years now, the dragon boat competitions in Duisburg, organized by the Wanheimer Canoe Guild Duisburg with the support of the Duisburg Office, have been held. This event, a world record, has earned its place in the Guinness Book of Records. The entry was made in 2005, when 154 teams participated. To this day, the number of participants is usually significantly higher each year. Around 3,000 athletes in approximately 170 teams compete annually on the courses in the Inner Harbor. Encouragingly, the Student and Teacher Cup competitions also attract increasing interest each year. On June 12, 2026, according to Werner Gerd of the organizing Wanheim Canoe Guild, well over 500 students and more than 300 teachers were competing in their dragon boats.
