HERoNI | Gratitude in Glass: War Memorial Windows by Clokey of Belfast
The talk from Nigel Henderson and History Hub Ulster in partnership with the HERoNI Lecture Series will give a very brief outline about the Clokey firm but will focus on a selection of windows designed and made by the firm to commemorate wartime service of church congregations or individuals. There are at least thirty Clokey war-related memorial windows in Ulster and the talk will include details of the cities, towns, or villages in which they are located. For each window, there will be details on when it was unveiled/dedicated and who carried out the unveiling and/or dedication. For windows which commemorate an individual war fatality, this talk will provide a comprehensive biography on the fatality. For windows which commemorate the war service from church congregations, a comprehensive biography will be provided for one of the fatalities from the congregation. One comment from this talk: "Thank you most sincerely for the wonderful talk you compiled for us with excellent photographs and explanations. All quite emotional thinking of the many deaths which were recorded in the windows, but so very interesting to learn more. Well done."
