Peyote Singing Drum (Tie-up Demonstration) | How it's Done
Our friend Savanna demonstrates how to tie up the traditional peyote-singing, water drum. These drums are used in the holy and healing ceremonies of the Diné (Navajo) and other tribes. The songs with drum and rattle are known to induce relaxed or euphoric states, and even trance. The water and magnetized hematite amplify the strength of the drum's reverberation, bringing frequency healing effects. Some of the songs are praising creator and it's believed to draw the angels/holy people just like worship music. Some are less holy lyrics, but the songs are meant to encourage the beauty way regardless. In this video, cow hide is strung to a metal water drum with paracord and magnetic hematite stones (shaped into round balls). Steps of the drum stringing tie up are annotated for those curious about the process, or looking to do it themselves. Music is "Healing Dancers" by Red Feather Freedom, found here: • Healing Dancers
