Learning to Love Nature in a Big City | Lila Higgins | TEDxPasadena
Most people think that there’s little to no nature in major cities such as Los Angeles. Or that the nature there, is not much worth learning about. But Lila Higgins, an urban entomologist and citizen scientist, is here to prove them wrong. She contends that nature in large urban environments is actually surprising, beautiful, and definitely worth studying...and that knowing about it helps us to live better lives. She hopes to inspire us all to learn how to love it just a little bit more. Lila Higgins is an avid urban nature explorer with degrees in entomology and environmental education. Her favorite nature space in Los Angeles is the L.A. River, where she leads river tours, picnics, and was part of the artist collective, Project 51: Play the L.A. River. Lila currently works at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, where she runs the Citizen Science program. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
