When "Oliver!" had its premiere in London in 1960, Humphries played Mr. Sowerberry and covered Fagin. Humphries repeated Mr. Sowerberry on Broadway in 1963. When "Oliver!" had its first London revival in 1967, Humphries was Fagin. In 1997, three years into the run of Cameron Mackintosh's revival of "Oliver!" at the London Palladium, Humphries returned to the role of Fagin.
