Grade 4 Harvest Day 🌱 | From Planting to Profit (Matooke Project)

At MST Junior School, learning goes beyond the classroom—and this video is a beautiful example of that. Our Grade Four learners proudly harvest the matooke they planted back in Grade Three. Each child takes responsibility for their own banana plant, and this hands-on project teaches them essential life skills in agriculture, responsibility, and financial literacy. In this video, you’ll see: 🌱 Learners being guided on how to properly harvest matooke 🔪 Where to cut the plant safely and correctly 🌿 How to manage the banana prop while harvesting to avoid accidents 📝 Careful recording of whose bunch has been harvested After harvesting, the learners: 🛒 Transport their matooke using wheelbarrows back to school ⚖️ Weigh each bunch to determine its value per kilogram 💰 Calculate how much the school will pay for their produce This practical process introduces them to real-world financial literacy, as they will later receive their earnings and deposit the money into their individual bank accounts Banking day at the end of the term. At the school gate, a powerful message reminds us why this matters: "If we don't teach children agriculture, we shall raise a generation that imports food." We are proud to nurture responsible, skilled, and financially aware young learners. #MSTJuniorSchool #youngfarmers #financialliteracy #agricultureeducation #financialliteracyforkids #Matooke #handsonlearning #UgandaSchools
