Darwin City Christmas Day 2024 Walking and Driving Tour. We start with a short drive around the city centre and explore the artwork graffiti in the iconic Austin Lane and other laneways. We do a walk around Bicentennial Park exploring. Red-tailed black cockatoos are everywhere. We also walk down to Lameroo Beach and check it out! It was the location of the town's historic baths between 1922 and 1974. The name for Lameroo Beach comes from a corrupted interpretation of the nearby Aboriginal site Damoe-Ra, which means "eye" or "spring" in Larrakia. which was also a place of meaning to the Larrakia tribe. The old Larrakia people would canoe from cox peninsula to Lameroo beach and back during time's of ceremonies and other important events. AUSTIN LANE Darwin is a city of many flavours – literally & figuratively! We have laid back pubs, more palm trees and ocean views than you can poke a stick at, pockets of fine waterfront dining, a bustling market scene, and right in the middle of the CBD – a laneway that looks like its straight outta Melbourne. BICENTENNIAL PARK Bicentennial Park is a large area of parkland located in the Darwin city centre, Darwin, Northern Territory. It runs the length of Darwin's waterfront which looks over Darwin Harbour.
