Warrnambool Grey-headed Flying Fox Mating

A camp of Grey-headed Flying Fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) occupied a number of trees at the Warrnambool Botanical Gardens, restless and making a lot of noises. A long-shot video of two of these large bats showed them mating. The male's long penis can be seen hanging downwards towards the head. The male moves behind the female, holds back her wings and copulates with her a couple of times. Video by Wong Kais. Warrnambool Botanical Gardens. 9 March 2023
