The Ballad of Ben Hall (Live from the Australian Folk Music Awards)

We’ve sung this song everywhere - in front of primary schools and politicians and it was pretty special playing it at the Australian Folk Music Awards after winning ‘Duo of the Year!’ It’s a song we learned from the singing of Sally Sloane. It was written and passed on by a community who were sick of oppressive structures and took the figure of Ben Hall as a figure of resistance. It’s not a hero song for colonisers but mourning the violence of colonisation. We sing in solidarity with those who continue to resist oppression and fight for justice on stolen land.
