Micron Legend: Double-Face's True Form
Maybe. The Cybertrons once learned the hard way that trusting the mysterious drifter wasn't the best idea. Now it's the Destrons' turn! Yay! In response to Thrust's growing and entirely justified mistrust of him, Double-Face takes advantage of Ironhide's extreme (some might even say homoerotic) loyalty to Megatron to trick Ironhide into attempting to assassinate Thrust. Luckily(?) Starscream and Sandstorm intervene before any lasting damage can be done, and the jig on Double-Face is officially up. As a test of his competence, Megatron sends Thrust to bring down Double-Face. And at first, it seems like Thrust's invisibility power and his Micron, Thunder, are giving him the upper hand, but then... um... But then um. Micron Legend shows the first signs of the cosmic horror story it will become later as Double-Face bizarrely degenerates into... some kind of something that would send Ness catapulting upward in his bed in a cold sweat. Despite all of the Destrons' best efforts, it seems that Double-Face can't be killed with the weapons they have. Double-Face zips away into the sky laughing maniacally as all the Destrons silently agree never to mention any of this to the Cybertrons. Because, really, why would they believe them? What exactly Double-Face is supposed to be is something that goes unanswered. He claims to be a Transformer, but no Transformers I know of can turn into the love child of Yog-Sothoth and TV static. Megatron guesses that Double-Face's bizarre shape might be his true form, but really our guess is as good as any he could make. In the English dub, Megatron refers to Sideways as a "virus," to which Sideways responds, "This is one virus you'll never destroy!" Whether or not Sideways is literally a virus, whether that applies to Double-Face, or what that would even mean if it were true is anybody's guess. Though, in a previous episode, Double-Face did invade the Cybertrons' computer system, so the English dub might have something there. Further complicating the issue is that Sideways was given a backstory in Transformers: Cybertron, but the Galaxy Force version of the character is named "Noisemaze," not "Double-Face," confusing fans of the Japanese versions whether or not they're supposed to be the same character. Galaxy Force has recently been retconned as being part of the same continuity as Superlink and Micron Legend, but that just adds to the confusion. Whatever Double-Face is supposed to be, I think we can all agree he is one freaky mama-jama. Scene from episode 27 of Transformers: Micron Legend, "True Identity Revealed."
