As I reported on Twitter the other day, Louis' surgery has been completed successfully! The hole in his diaphragm was quite large, and his liver and gallbladder had entered through it and moved toward his pericardium. Through surgery, we were able to return those organs to their correct positions. While we were waiting in the waiting room on the day of his admission, Louis is usually calm and collected in his carrier, but on this day, he seemed surprised and a little nervous, perhaps because of the unfamiliar sounds of dogs and the large number of people around. After that, his breathing gradually became more labored, he began breathing through his mouth, he became lethargic, and stopped moving, and we had to quickly move him into an oxygen chamber. I was extremely anxious before the surgery, but after calming down in the oxygen chamber, when we came back, he was back to his usual self. However, the doctor told me that this disease makes it difficult to breathe, and that he's desperately trying to take in as much oxygen as possible, which makes him more likely to end up in this state. After the surgery, he was moved from the ICU to the general area, and I was able to visit him. I was able to see Louis, his usual energetic self. When he saw me, he clung to me tightly, and I was so happy because I was so worried. You really did a great job. The chest and urinary tubes have been removed, but his stomach still leaks fluid, so he still has a tube in his stomach. He wasn't able to eat while he was in the hospital, but he's started to eat small amounts of snacks and soft food, and his IV drip has been removed. This is Al's first time being away from Louis, and he hasn't been very energetic since he was hospitalized. He usually doesn't cry much except for mealtimes, but now he's crying more frequently and is becoming even more clingy. Once I'm healthy again, I'll post lots of photos and videos!
