2000 Silverstone 500 USA Challenge | American Le Mans Series Highlights

Apologies for the lack of commentary - the ALMS broadcast has none on it. I though throwing together some subtitles would be better than nothing... No one could accuse the late Don Panoz of lacking imaginative ideas. Just a year on from the fondation of the ALMS, he took the series over to Europe for a pair of races sandwiching Le Mans in June. The Silverstone and Nurburgring ALMS rounds were intended as a gauge for a potential European Le Mans Series, assessing the interest of existing European teams to get in on the action. In that way, the ALMS' summer 2000 excursion to Europe was a success; enough entries gathered for Panoz to push forward with a European series in 2001. But in the long run, it proved a dead end: the European series failed after just a single year with dwindling entries, and the ALMS narrowed its focus back to North America.
