As we progress through the decades it becomes more and more difficult to cull down the drum sounds of an era into a manageable episode so we decided to focus on the “studio sound” that became quite prevalent in the 1980s; Hydraulic tom batter heads, heavily muffled kick and snare, and generally dry acoustic sounds all around. This was heavily influenced by Steve Gadd in the late ’70s and on into the ‘80s and so we reference a variety of popular tracks in the demos throughout this episode.
