Born in Daegu in 1983, she began her literary career in 2012 when her work Chicken Run won the Dong-A Ilbo New Year's Literary Contest. Since then, she has established herself as a representative author of the Korean literary scene by publishing the full-length novels Central Station and About My Daughter*, as well as the short story collections *Life Called You and *A Heart Praying for Blessings*. Rather than focusing on flashy events or dramatic plot developments, Kim Hye-jin’s works concentrate on the stories of people silently enduring the realities of our society—such as poverty, discrimination, labor, caregiving, school violence, and family conflict.
