Revisiting Once Upon A Time : S1E1 - Pilot (Recap/Review/Reaction)

Hey guys! It's finally time. After years—literal years (Oops... our bad)—we finally made it to Season 1 of Once Upon a Time. This one is a bit of a doozy for us, and for very different reasons. Wil has had a lifelong fascination with fairy tales, folklore, and mythology—interests that even helped shape the development of his debut novel, Fairytale. Kristin, meanwhile, has an equally lifelong appreciation for... well... TV that is good. So you can probably imagine how this series challenged us. And yet, somehow, we didn't just watch it once... we watched it twice. Between the imaginative costumes and sets, the delightfully soapy melodrama, the ambitious reimagining of classic fairy tales, and—let's be charitable here—the occasionally inconsistent writing, we realized this was the perfect candidate for the next installment of our ongoing series, Revisiting. So strike a match, light a torch, and journey back into the Enchanted Forest with us as we revisit, unpack, and occasionally question every twist and turn of Once Upon a Time Season 1. Once Upon A Time: Season 1 Episode 1 - Pilot The Evil Queen casts a spell trapping classic characters in time in the modern town of Storybrooke, Maine. The only hope of breaking the spell rests in the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who is prophesied to return on her 28th birthday, meanwhile in the real world, a young woman is surprised when her estranged son knocks on her door on her 28th birthday.
