For three consecutive years (2013-2015), the town was voted the "happiest place to live" in Britain in surveys. Harrogate's spa water contains iron, sulfur and table salt (NaCl). The town became known as the 'English Spa' during the Georgian period after its waters were discovered in the 16th century.
