The Cochin Minstrels was formed in 2000 under the leadership of Oommen George and began its musical journey from a house in Kakkanad with just 16 choristers. By 2004 it had blossomed into a full-fledged choir with 40 members. In those early years the choir focused on choral programmes, which it titled 'Through the Cross', during the Easter period. For many years it was the only choir in Cochin that conducted such musical performances during Easter. The Cochin Minstrels have taken part in many Christmas programmes held by the YMCAs and the Renewal Centre, Ernakulam. The Cochin Minstrels has also performed outside Cochin - in Alleppey at the invitation of the YMCA, at Trivandrum at the Co-Bank Towers sponsored by the Russian consulate, and The Immanuel Marthoma Church, Eraviperoor. It has also held joint concerts with well-known choirs like the Kottayam Mixed Voices, the Moshavalsalam Shastriyaar Chorus, and the St. Francis C.S.I. Church, Fort Cochin. The proceeds from its performances have been donated to various charitable organisations. Forty six members of The Cochin Minstrels have come together after a gap of 14 years to record the music we all love so much in the only way possible in this time of the COVID pandemic, that is virtually.
