According to one of the church chronicles of the 18th century, the poems were written by the poet Simon Dach for the marriage of Anne Neander. According to various sources, Anna was the daughter of Pastor Neander of Tarau, who died in 1630. Seven years after his death, she became the wife of the preacher Johann Partatius. According to one version, the poet himself was in love with Anna. At the time of writing the poem, Dach was in very constrained circumstances, occupying the modest position of a teacher at the cathedral school of Koenigsberg, and the girl, at the insistence of her relatives, married another. According to another version, the author was a friend of the groom and wrote his poems for the wedding of Johann Partatius and Anna. The poems were first published in 1642 by Heinrich Albert, already in the form of a song, since Albert accompanied them with a melody of his own composition. Created in one of the Low German dialects, the song gained wide popularity only in the 18th century, after Johann Herder translated it into literary German. A year after Herder's publication (collection Volkslieder, 1778, Leipzig), the poet KZ Senkendorf published the work in his own musical arrangement. Anna Neander, Tochter des Dorfpfarrers Andreas Martin Neander in Tharau (Vladimorovo) – ca. 4 km westlich der Haupstraße Königsberg-Preußisch-Eylau (A 195) auf der Höhe von Wittenberg (Nivenskoe) – wurde hier 1619 geboren und in der Dorfkirche getauft. Anne Neander hat 36 Jahre in Laukischken (Strankoe) gelebt und war die Ehefrau von drei Pastoren der Gemeinde (Portatius, Grube und Beilstein), die sie alle überlebt hat. Dann zog sie nach Insterburg zu ihren Sohn. Sie starb in Insterburg und wurde auf dem dortigen Friedhof beigesetzt. Ein Gedenkstein erinnert in Insterburg in einem Park noch heute an sie. Das Lied, das aus 17 Versen besteht und ursprünglich in niederdeutscher Sprache aufgeschrieben wurde, wird dem Dichter Simon Dach, Inhaber des Lehrstuhls für Poesie an der Universität Königsberg, (geb. 29.7.1605 in Memel als Sohn eines Gerichtsdolmetschers, gest. 15.4.1659 in Königsberg) zugeschrieben. Das Ännchen soll Simon Dach auf einer Fähre begegnet sein. Ihre Schönheit habe ihn zu dem Gedicht inspiniert haben, das er dann zu Annes Hochzeit mit dem Pfarrer Portatius schrieb.
