Rajiv Dixit: Kapha - 19

In Ayurveda, Kapha is one of the three doshas governing stability, lubrication, and strength in the body. However, when Kapha is excessive, it can cause congestion, sluggishness, weight gain, and lethargy. To balance Kapha, it's essential to use specific foods and lifestyle practices that counteract its heavy, slow, and moist qualities. Kapha-Nashak Foods and Consumer Awareness Kapha-balancing (Kapha-nashak) foods are warming, light, and drying, including spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric, along with bitter greens and astringent fruits. As health advocate Rajiv Dixit emphasized, traditional foods and natural ingredients should be prioritized over refined or processed versions for their purity and health benefits. Choose Natural Black, Avoid Refined White Products Following Dixit's principles, natural, unrefined products should be favored, as manufacturers often add chemicals, such as detergents, to refine and “whiten” items like jaggery, which poses serious health risks. For example: Black Sesame Seeds (Til): These seeds are nutritionally dense and have natural oils and minerals that nourish and balance Kapha. Black sesame is superior to white sesame in terms of nutrients and is free from unnecessary refining processes. Dark, Unrefined Jaggery vs. Refined Sugar: Traditional, darker jaggery supports digestion and energy without increasing Kapha. Refined jaggery, often processed with chemicals to enhance color, should be avoided. Healthy Recipes and Preparations for Kapha Balance 1. Til Ladoo (Sesame Balls): Prepared with black sesame seeds and unrefined jaggery, this Ayurvedic treat offers energy, immunity, and Kapha-balancing properties without chemical additives. 2. Herbal Spiced Tea: Made with ginger, black pepper, and tulsi, this warming tea boosts metabolism, clears congestion, and balances Kapha. In addition to supporting health, choosing these natural, unrefined options promotes conscious consumerism and keeps chemical-laden, artificially "enhanced" products out of the diet.
