West Somerset "Castle", Summer 2025

Locomotive Services Ltd's newly restored GWR "Castle" 4-6-0, No 5029 NUNNEY CASTLE, spent the summer months based at Bishops Lydeard on the West Somerset Railway. The locomotive worked a series of mainline charters to Paignton and Kingswear in South Devon for Saphos Trains and Steam Dreams. The prevailing hot and dry conditions for much of the summer meant a high fire risk assessment and many of the trains had diesel assistance. The loco took a leading role in the WSR's Autumn Steam Gala, before being escorted home to its Crewe base by a pair of Class 20's on October 21st
