El Misisipi - Un viaje por el corazón de Estados Unidos | DW Documental

The Mississippi River flows nearly 4,000 kilometers from northern Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico. For many Americans, the majestic river is inextricably linked to the nation's history. Its banks have been inhabited by communities for thousands of years. Today, the river unites many different cultures and is considered the soul of America. When Europeans arrived, they colonized the Mississippi River lands and displaced the Native peoples. Until then, the Choctaw people lived between what is now Memphis and the river's mouth near New Orleans. Unlike many other Native American nations, the Choctaw quickly adopted the structures and customs of the colonizers. Today, they form the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Currently, the central United States has fallen into disrepute. "Flyover States" has become a familiar term. But if we look closely, we discover small and great wonders. There are people who, amidst overwhelming nature, have found their own culture and freedom, breathing new life into ancient traditions. Many things are being rediscovered along the banks of the Mississippi, including Voodoo in New Orleans. This practice has been here for a long time and no longer needs to hide. People are now looking at this practice with increasing respect, recognizing that it has much more to offer than was long attributed to it. The report takes us on a journey from the birthplace of rock and roll, Memphis, to the majestic Mississippi Delta. #dwdocumentary #documentary #missisi DW Documentary brings you information beyond the headlines.
