Ivor the Engine ~ The First Story (1977) ~ Audiobook Part #1
Not very long ago, in the top left-hand corner of Wales, there was a railway. It wasn't a very long railway or a very important railway, but it was called The Merioneth and Llantisilly Rail Traction Company Limited, and it was all there was. And in a shed, in a siding at the end of the railway, lived the Locomotive of the Merioneth and Llantisilly Rail Traction Company Limited, which was a long name for a little engine, so his friends just called him Ivor. ~ After a long time away from video making - I've decided to slowly work on a new series of videos - The Transportation Tales. While still a fan of The Railway Series and that wonderful cast of characters, this video series is an attempt to bring other unique stories to a wider audience, whether they have anything to do with railways or not. Where possible, I'll try to match the stories with pre-existing audio recordings, such as the result here. Ivor the Engine was first created by Oliver Postgate & Peter Firmin in 1959 as a short series of black & white films for Associated-Redifusion Ltd. This version of the very first story was published in 1977 for Picture Lions, featuring updated illustrations and a shorter retelling of a longer edition published in 1962 by Abelard-Schuman. (Yes, I want to cover that one as well!) The lucky find came from a recent posting of a 1970s Harper Collins audio recording told by Oliver Postgate with music by series composer Vernon Elliott. Having acquired copies of several published Ivor Books (only missing two rare ones at the moment!), I look forward to many more outings with Ivor and Jones the Steam. No profit has been made on this video. It is made for preservation and entertainment purposes. Ivor the Engine is copyright to Smallfilms. Please support the official release!
