She was born on June 17, 1999, in Moscow, Russia, and started playing tennis at the age of six. Rybakina turned professional in 2016 and quickly rose up the rankings. In 2019, she won her first WTA title at the Bucharest Open, and followed that up with two more titles at the Hobart International and the Jiangxi Open. She also reached the final of the Shenzhen Open and the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships. In 2020, Rybakina continued to make a name for herself on the tour. She reached the final of the Premier- level Dubai Tennis Championships, where she lost to Simona Halep. She also made the quarterfinals of the US Open, her best performance at a Grand Slam tournament to date. She ended the year ranked world No. 19. In 2021, Rybakina reached the final of the Abu Dhabi Open, where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka. She also made the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the semifinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships, and the final of the St. Petersburg Ladies' Trophy.
