Ep. 51 MOSAIC ROSES, SPRING FEVER III & BUTTERFLIES! A quick update on all my works in progress - Spring Fever III commission, the fountain, the orange, the chipmunk stepping stone and a quick peek at some of the butterflies my students and I made for Lori Kay Farris's Wings of Hope Community Mosaic Project for The Fitton Center. 1:20 I've been trying to decide on the color of my roses for the fountain. I think white will be a nice neutral choice. I've take a ton of reference photos, printed them out and I'm tracing with carbon paper and then going over that with Sharpie so I can see it. TIP: Make sure your flowers are all the same scale so they don't seem out of place. 2:16 The roses are transferred and now I don't need another flower on the left side. Instead, I will be putting two dragonflies to represent my two nephew's that have passed away. Then I draw the dragonflies on the substrate. 3:40 Starting in the center, I begin on the white roses, using a bit of pink and orange. I finish three roses! 4:30 I take a break from the roses and work on Spring Fever III for a bit. 4:45 A very sad announcement: the flowers that I made I am NOT loving. Bleh. Even the sound is terrible. 6:16 YAY! I can finally start on some PINK roses. They look so much better right off the bat! 6:44 I have a little visitor in my studio! 7:20 Update on the orange and chipmunk progress for the week. 8:00 Some advice from an artist friend about making these roses, and I show how I make the leaves.
