#In5Minutes: How Kenya tackled statelessness through national ID reform
Kenya’s approach to legal identity offers important lessons for the region. Christopher Wanjau of the National Registration Bureau explains how the country addressed statelessness by recognizing long-excluded communities through its ID system. He joins IOM Zimbabwe’s Tsitsi Mkonto and ECA’s Christian Oldiges to discuss legal identity, migration, and inclusion across Africa. Recorded during a regional workshop held in Harare, Zimbabwe (26–30 May 2025), focused on improving migration statistics and strengthening legal identity frameworks for migrants across the East and Horn of Africa.
