North Korean Souvenirs You’ve Never Seen Before!

Earlier this year, I participated in the 31st Pyongyang International Marathon, becoming one of the first foreigners (apart from a few Russians) to enter North Korea since the COVID-19 border closures. I spent five days in Pyongyang as an "amateur athlete," and of course, I couldn’t leave without picking up some weird and wonderful North Korean souvenirs. In this video, I sit down with Jacco Zwetsloot to unpack everything I brought back, from propaganda posters and strange medicines to quirky snacks and home goods. Together, we take a closer look at what these items say about North Korean society, design, and daily life. Some have probably never been seen outside the country.
