De Li becomes convinced that a group of fireflies is actually a fairy that is looking for something. She and the other Piplings follow it around Nara, trying to discover what it’s searching for – but with no luck. When the children arrive, they realise what the ‘fairy’ truly is. And work out what these fireflies are trying to find – more of their kind! Soon they locate the rest of the swarm in the hollow in an old tree – and the twinkling fireflies are reunited with their friends, making a dazzling display as they fly happily around their helpers.
