GOSPEL with Commentary and Blessing. Gospel of the Day Wednesday, July 22, 2026 Audio Gospel of the day in Italian with commentary by    / @frastefano   Today's Liturgy of the Word, from the Gospel according to John Glory to you, O Lord Jn 20:1-2, 11-18 On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. She ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have laid him." Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. As she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb and saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him." When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" She, supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, "Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him." Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabboni!" (which means, "Teacher!"). Jesus said to her, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; But go to my brothers and say to them, 'I ascend to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Magdalene went to announce to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord!" and what he had said to her. The Word of the Lord Praise to you, O Christ Mary Magdalene arrives at the tomb while it is still dark. And it is an image we know well too. There are moments in life when everything still seems dark: when we lose a loved one, when a wound doesn't heal, when we no longer find the strength to get up. Magdalene cries before a tomb because she thinks it's all over. For her, Jesus now belongs to the past. Yet the Gospel shows us something beautiful: Jesus does not abandon Magdalene in her pain. He approaches her precisely as she cries. He doesn't reproach her for her tears. He doesn't tell her to be strong. First of all, he calls her by name: "Mary." It is the voice of love that reaches her in her pain. Sometimes we think God is far away precisely when we suffer the most. Instead, the Gospel tells us that He is often right there, close to us, even if we don't immediately recognize Him. Magdalene sees Jesus but doesn't yet understand that it is He. We too, in grief, weariness, and disappointment, may fail to realize that the Lord is still walking beside us. Yet a word, a small sign, a caress received at the right time, a tearful prayer, is enough to slowly begin to live again. The risen Jesus does not magically erase Magdalene's pain, but transforms it. The woman who arrived weeping before a tomb sets out again, announcing life. This is the heart of Christian hope: the tomb is not the last word. Not for those we have loved, nor for our wounded lives. With the risen Christ, we can still get up. We can still live again. We can still discover that love is not over, because God can always put us back on our feet.
