DEPECHE MODE - 101 - LIVE - A Re-Edit For The Masses - Retro style extended fan-edit version

Depeche Mode’s classic live album and concert film 101 — reimagined as a new fan-made high-quality re-edit. This version combines material from both the documentary and the concert film, along with bonus tracks from the 2021 re-release, to create a unique new viewing experience. The aim has been to craft the most seamless, atmospheric, and carefully curated incarnation possible of Depeche Mode live at the Rose Bowl in 1988. Simply put: this is the version I would personally love to stumble across here on YouTube. Going into the project, I imagined discovering an old battered tape reel containing a previously unknown alternate cut of the film. What would it look like? What would it sound like? Something like this… Faded colours. Odd framing. Grain. Wear and tear. Wherever possible, I’ve tried to reconstruct the full live performances from the original album, avoiding the frequent fade-ins and fade-outs used in the official release. Beyond that, I’ve adjusted literally hundreds of small — and not so small — details throughout. One of the biggest challenges with projects like this is the limited amount of available footage. Fan edits can easily lean too heavily on repeated shots and obvious recycling of the same material. I wanted to avoid that wherever possible by being more creative and pragmatic with the editing instead. Because of that, I haven’t tried to force every available song into this cut. The focus has been on finding the right running order, pacing, and atmosphere for this particular version. It should also be said that the original film itself is something of a patchwork, with footage from numerous locations woven together. I’ve tried to minimise shots that are obviously indoors or otherwise visually distracting in that sense. Still, the mysterious — and quite magical — appearance and disappearance of certain hats and other details remains, of course… just a little less often. It may not be everyone’s ideal version of 101, but it’s the one I always wanted to see. I love it - hope you do too... 00:00:13 Pimpf (Intro) 00:04:09 Behind the Wheel 00:08:57 Strangelove 00:12:57 Sacred 00:18:01 Something To Do 00:21:54 Blasphemous Rumours 00:26:52 Stripped 00:32:01 Somebody 00:36:35 Black Celebration 00:40:28 Shake the Disease 00:43:33 Pleasure Little Treasure 00:48:17 (Intermission) 00:49:12 Just Can't Get Enough 00:53:17 Everything Counts 00:58:38 Never Let Me Down Again 01:04:44 Nothing (Credits) Audio recorded 18th June 1988 at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA, US Video from the Rose Bowl and various venues across the US during the Music For The Masses Tour.
