DJI O4 Air Unit, Camera Cable Replacement
In this video I will show you how to quickly and easily replace the lens cable (coaxial cable) on the DJI O4 Air Unit Pro FPV camera. This guide is also applicable to the DJI O4 Air Unit (Lite) camera, since both models use the same cable and connector. To replace the cable you will need a 1.5 mm HEX screwdriver, a small Phillips screwdriver, and something with a sharp tip, such as tweezers, which will make the process easier. During the replacement process you will not need to disconnect the memory card ribbon cable or remove the antennas, since the cable can easily be replaced without these unnecessary manipulations, which will save you time. Just do everything carefully and do not pull too hard on the top cover of the module or the antennas. It is most convenient to perform all of these steps on a table, but you can also do it on your lap if you prefer. If you are lucky enough to have excellent eyesight, the process will be even easier for you. I used glasses. 1. Unscrew the four bolts holding the module cover in place. 2. Carefully slide the cover to the side while slightly bending the memory card ribbon cable, but do not pull too hard. The ribbon cable length is sufficient. 3. Using tweezers, remove the sealing mesh “pad” from the inside of the cover, since if the cable is new, it will most likely already have the same pad attached to it. If the new cable does not have this element, then the pad inside the module cover can remain in place. 4. Using a thin, sharp object (in my case thin tweezers), carefully lift the plastic side tab located on the side of the cable connector installed inside the module. These tabs are present on both sides of the connector, and lifting just one of them is enough — whichever side is more convenient for you. WARNING: Be careful, because directly underneath the plastic tab there is a small metal plate that belongs not to the cable but to the connector on the module itself. Right below it there is also a poorly placed recess which many people mistake for a place to insert tweezers and pull upward with force. Doing so can damage the connector mounted on the module itself, and we definitely do not want that, lol. You need to lift only the plastic tab and nothing else. 5. Once the cable disconnects from the module with slight force and a very subtle click, we can install one end of the new cable into the now empty connector. To do this, simply align the contacts of the new cable with the connector on the module, using the guide located approximately in the center of the contact row. Position the contacts evenly above the mating connector and gently press the cable connector into place. You may feel a slight click, although often it is barely noticeable. In any case, alternately press the left and right sides of the connector to ensure it is securely seated. After that, you can return the cover to its place and tighten the screws. 6. Now let’s move on to the camera housing itself, where you need to remove the two small screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Then carefully separate the two halves using gentle rocking motions. 7. Remove the rubber seal from the rectangular opening through which the cable passes. Do not throw this seal away. 8. Carefully peel the cable away from the double-sided adhesive tape holding the section located inside the housing. 9. Just like with the module, use something sharp to lift the plastic side tab of the cable connector and carefully disconnect it. 10. In most cases the cable has a 90-degree contact orientation, which allows it to be easily removed through the rectangular opening in the camera cover where we removed the rubber seal earlier. Do this now. 11. Insert the second end of the new cable — the one already connected to the module earlier — into the now empty opening. Make sure you insert it from the outside of the camera housing. 12. Just like with the module, and using the plastic guide and alignment features for orientation, connect the new cable to the mating connector on the camera and press it several times to ensure a secure connection. 13. Reattach the section of the new cable along the perimeter onto the same double-sided tape from which we removed the old cable. Then carefully and gently rock the camera cover back into place. Do not worry about the thermal paste (the pink substance). As long as you did not accidentally wipe it off during the process, it will settle back into place exactly as it was before, and there will be no issues with heat transfer. 14. Tighten the two small screws using the Phillips screwdriver and carefully reinstall the rubber seal by first wrapping it around the cable and then gently pushing the edges back into the opening in the camera cover without using excessive force. That’s it. Everything is ready. You did it. Good job! Thank you for watching. Thank you for reading. I hope this was helpful. I would appreciate your feedback. Have a great day!
